    But who is covering our license fees?

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials 2 місяці тому

      From what I know, the license changes favors the big players, because the new vcf suite includes almost everything. As opposed to before they had to pay extra for additional products based on a tiering system and points per vram. For this top tier they could actually see a reduction in price. I have seen a few articles floating around about court cases within the EU against Broadcom due to these license changes, so will be interesting to see what comes of that.

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials 6 місяців тому

      Hi, 127.0.0.1 just means localhost, so refer to itself for dns. It's the same as entering the IP address used on the host. It then talks to the DNS server and either uses the forwarders (if you have them setup) or uses the root hint servers that are there by default.

      Ok, you would create the raid volume before installing esxi, then you can place some vm's on the datastore. Is this a single server setup i.e. do you intend to use a cluster or multiple esxi hosts ?

      @@sysadmintutorials it’s a unique physical server, one esxi host, 5-6 virtual machines on it. So can i install the esxi hypervisor and then the virtual machines (in general windows server 2016 machines) on the same datastore (raid volume) where is installed the esxi or do i need a separate raid volume (datastore) for the esxi and a separate one for the virtual machines (dedicated datastore)?

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials 10 місяців тому

      You can do either. Install esxi and use 1 big datastore for both esxi and vm's or you can create 2 volumes within your raid config so the first is used for esxi and 2nd is used for vm's. Is this a production server or a lab ?

      Hi ZoneVang, if that is the case you will need to shutdown some of your vm's until you have enough resources to place the host in maintenance mode.

    Hi ❤ I love the video, pacing of your training is fantastic. Could I please ask you to email the script ? and yes love to see the host offline display in 'RED', I see if I use CHATGPT to assist if dont hear from you early enough. Now that I have this script thanks your training video, I can now produce a report to present to management of the hosts failed on a regular basis. I am yet to produce many other reports with status of other hardwares as well. How do I use your service as I am based in OZ (Australia) being in a different timezone.? Thank you kindy

    hi The esxcli software vib update and esxcli software vib install commands are not supported for upgrade operations. See Upgrade or Update a Host with Image Profiles. I saw this message on the official website, but why is your method effective?

      Hi Zack, are you using a custom esxi image as opposed to the standard one ? i.e. are you use Dell customer image or another vendor ?

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials 11 місяців тому

      You have some options here, either remove the vib files using esxcli, they will prevent you from upgrading anyway, use the vsphere 7 HP custom ISO and try a direct upgrade on the host (I haven't tried with HP so not sure if this will resolve it), or lastly download vsphere 7 HP custom ISO and rebuilt the esxi host.

    Awesome video, I plan to upgrade my own soon. Do you know whether this works with same with Custom ISO's from the VMware website ( installed using their Dell Custom ISO but only running ESXi and not vCenter? Also do you know whether you can boot with the custom ISO and just upgrade it like that? Thank you.

    Hi, Great video. When you bring the host out of maintenance mode after the upgrade is complete, will vCenter automatically move the VMs back to the 7.0 host? Is there any issue migrating the VMs that were moved from the 6.7 host back into the 7.0 host? Thanks!

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials Рік тому

      Hi Mark, if you have DRS enabled on the cluster it will. Should not be any issues moving 6.7 vm's to 7 due to vm hardware level being less than 7

    Another tip, make sure you have PTR records in DNS created for all of the hosts/vms involved as the installer will do reverse DNS lookups.

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials Рік тому

      Hi Mark, you don't really need to have all your vm's setup with PTR's for the upgrade. If you have added in your hosts to vcenter using DNS then yes it's a good idea to have forward and reverse entries setup for the hosts

    Great explanation and upgrade demo. I am going to upgrade from 6.7.3 to latest 7.0.3i (VMware-VCSA-all-7.0.3-21477706) is that ok ? Also after upgrade vcenter will take same license automatically in your video you upgraded from 6.7.3 to 7.0.3 and vcenter came backonline and you did not change license key. Can you please confirm I can just follow same steps you mentioned that all is need it and no change or anything for license ? if anything I need to do please let me know. Thank you

      @sysadmintutorials Рік тому

      Hi Kamran, thank you. Yes you can upgrade from 6.7.3 to 7.0.3, vcenter first then hosts. Make sure you check your host hardware compatibility on the VMware matrix before upgrading though just so you don't get caught out if something isn't supported. Yes you are correct, you need to upgrade your licenses to support vsphere 7
